Chopard Celebrates 50 Years of Happy Diamonds at Exclusive Chennai Event
Infinity Timeless and Chopard celebrated 50 years of Happy Diamonds in Chennai with an exclusive showcase of watches and jewellery brought from Geneva, featuring iconic collections and a look at the creation’s five-decade journey.
The event marked five decades of Chopard’s Happy Diamonds collection, with an exclusive display of watches and jewellery selected from the Maison’s extensive catalogue. The pieces were brought from Geneva especially for the occasion, giving guests an opportunity to experience the creations up close.
The showcase featured several of Chopard’s prominent collections, including L’Heure du Diamant, Happy Diamonds, Happy Sport, Alpine Eagle and Imperiale. Connoisseurs and brand enthusiasts spent the evening examining the pieces and discussing their craftsmanship and design.
The story of Happy Diamonds dates back to 1976, when Chopard introduced an innovative concept featuring diamonds moving freely between sapphire crystals. Designed to dance with every movement of the wearer, the concept challenged conventional approaches to fine jewellery and subsequently became one of the Maison’s defining signatures.
The collection continued to evolve over the following decades. In 1985, Caroline Scheufele created the Happy Clown jewellery collection, extending the dancing diamonds concept into a distinctive and expressive design. In 1993, Chopard introduced Happy Sport, combining steel and diamonds to give the concept a contemporary and versatile identity. Both developments retained the original collection’s central idea while exploring new expressions of the design philosophy.
Alongside its jewellery legacy, Chopard also strengthened its watchmaking capabilities. In 1996, Karl-Friedrich Scheufele, Co-President of Chopard, founded the Chopard Manufacture in Fleurier. The establishment enabled the Maison to produce its own movements and further developed its position in fine watchmaking.
The Chennai gathering brought together individuals with an appreciation for fine jewellery, watchmaking and craftsmanship. The specially curated collection from Geneva provided guests with an opportunity to examine the creations firsthand, while music, cocktails and cuisine created an informal setting for conversations and interaction.
As Happy Diamonds completes 50 years, its defining concept continues to reflect the vision introduced in 1976: combining the traditional appeal of diamonds with the freedom of movement. The anniversary celebration in Chennai highlighted the collection’s evolution across five decades and its enduring place in Chopard’s watchmaking and fine jewellery portfolio.
